One of my favorite Wedding Trends as of lately is the use of Non Floral “Florals” I am LOVING seeing paper and felt flowers adorning the Groomsmen’s lapels! It seems like such a small thing, but unique details like this really change the overall feel and mood of your wedding. They are also incredible conversation starters!

Kelsey & Joey’s Sweet Cheeks Vineyard Wedding Love Story

As you may remember last year Kelsey & Joey’s insanely gorgeous wedding at Sweet Cheeks Vineyard was one of my all time favorites. When I realized we had yet to highlight their Love Story video I was elated! Love Story videos have quickly become one of my favorite keepsakes for our Clients, so it is always a joy to share one with you all!

A few months ago Isaac and I decided it was time to add another member to our family. We had just finished up a whirlwind month of moving and selling our other house and all of the changes brought on such a welcome breath of fresh air. We were originally looking for Mini Goldendoodles because we knew we wanted a dog that didn’t shed. However in all of my searches I found that the smallest Goldendoodle in existence still weighed about 20 pounds. As much as that is perfect for some people, I knew that it wouldn’t be a good fit for us. We are constantly on the move. We fly at least every other month and live a very active lifestyle. It was really important to me that we found a pup that would fit into our crazy life and I knew that anything much over ten pounds would be slightly more difficult. In the endless sea of google searching a Poochon breeder popped up in Iowa with a tag that said “golden doodle look-alike” WOW! How random is that!?! Is this for real? Obviously intrigued I clicked away and came to their website. It was love at first site! Poochons ( a mix of apricot toy poodle & bichon frise) REALLY did look like a tiny little golden doodle! I was SMITTEN!

As soon as we found one available we put down a deposit and waited…. oh the waiting game. I seriously paced the floor all the time waiting for the day that I got to fly out to bring home our little bundle! Yes, I flew to get our dog…… don’t judge

I had air miles points! And this particular breeder wouldn’t ship puppies because she was concerned about the travel conditions. Okay by me! I got to hook up with some of my favorite P31 ladies and even have a slumber party with Sarah Bardo! It was 36 hours of bliss!

And after all of that… here she was…. this little bundle of fur that slept on my lap under a blankie for the entire flight! Shhhhhhh!!!! That probably isn’t allowed, but she did amazing, and she didn’t even weigh 3 pounds at the time so locking her up seemed super sad!

And then what kind of puppy mommy would I be if I didn’t take her on a real photoshoot every now and then! Within a few weeks Bella had her first snow! So I put her in a puffy snow coat of course! And then decided to have a photoshoot! Here is my favorite shot!

Wedding Planning with Pinterest…

Things certainly have changed since I planned our wedding 12 years ago. Buying a wedding magazine back then was like a right of passage into the wedding planning dreamworld. Girls like me had 10-30 wedding magazines covering their floor and notebooks full of ripped out pages for their perfect day. I understand that Brides today are still running down to Target the second they get Engaged to get their hands on the latest Grace Ormonde and Southern Weddings, but it seems that this is merely the first step in the planning process. Back then my notebook was filled, to the max, oozing out of the seems with pieces of every major Bridal Magazine. And although this is still the case with Bride’s today, the content is extremely different. While my notebook was almost exclusively filled with Gown and Bouquet ideas, Bride’s today have sooooo much more to think about. There are much more put together themes and color pallets, extensive DIY projects, chairs, linens, details, unique shoes…. ect… and I am certain it can at some times seem overwhelming. To me, this is where it gets exciting….

Last year one of my friends sent me an invite to Pinterest…. a social media platform used to share and organize inspiration. Brilliance really. In the last year it has quickly become the third most popular social networking site falling right behind Facebook and twitter. As a photographer, our industry has embraced Pinterest as a place to share their work, gain inspiration and hone their style. However, I think the use of Pinterest for Brides has even greater potential! I mean this tool is an incredible resource that will most likely help you bring the wedding of your dreams to fruition. And there is just not much more important than your wedding day! Right???! The best part is, what for me was a clunky big notebook filled with overflowing paper can now be a convenient app on your phone! You can take pictures and pin them to your boards from anywhere and access all of your boards on the go if you need inspiration while shopping! It’s literally a wedding planning game changer!

Having these boards at your fingertips makes communicating with your planner so much easier. It also helps you identify what you want to tackle on your own and what you might need help with. Many of our Brides for this year are using Pinterest for their weddings and I have so enjoyed following along with their boards. It helps me feel like I am a part of the day and makes us even more excited for it to come!

My favorite part of Pinterest is that with a few clicks you can find inspiration on anything from DIY Wedding Projects, Vintage Gowns, Sequin Shoes, Vineyard Wedding, Hawaii Beach Wedding…. really ANYTHING your little heart desires! It’s incredible!!! You can also follow your friends and glean from what they are inspired by. It’s like a gift that keeps on giving

When you find photos that you love, you can pin them into your own inspiration board so that it’s easy to find later. Oftentimes the photos are even links to helpful blogs that will teach you how to do that incredible DIY project you just found! It’s seriously ridiculous and I’m in love!

So, I challenge all of you fabulous savvy Brides to jump on Pinterest and dream to your hearts content! No doubt you will have so much fun and end up with an incredible wedding as a result.

I Dream in Vintage Airplanes ~ Pearl Harbor Wedding Inspiration

I have always been a lover of the 1940′s. When other ten year olds were reading Nancy Drew and Ramona the Pest I was immersed in the Diary of Anne Frank and Amelia Earhart Autobiographies. For years it was the only thing that my Mom could get me to read and every free report I was able to write revolved around these subjects… So obviously, as I grew older and movies like The Notebook, The Majestic and Pearl Harbor came out I was immediately drawn in. I could literally watch these movies on a daily basis and never tire. There’s just something about that era that tugs on my heart. Maybe it’s the fact that both of my grandfathers served in the war. Maybe it’s the amazing cars and gentlemanly ways that have me swooning. Who knows, maybe it’s just the fact that I love the fashion and the thought of dancing each night away with my love. I’m not exactly sure what it is, but I know one thing. The 40′s have my heart.

When I first saw the Evergreen Aviation Museum several years ago I tucked away a little dream. A dream of doing a stylized wedding shoot there based on the film Pearl Harbor. I didn’t know exactly when this would happen, or how it would come about, but I had the entire thing planned out in my head. It wasn’t until we started doing retreats for Pursuit 31 that I pulled out this little dream of mine and starting adding a little implementation. With the amazing help of Misty Damico from Luxe Event Productions we pulled together this unbelievable 1940′s inspired World War 2 Pearl Harbor wedding shoot.

I was awestruck when I walked in that day and saw it all coming together. Here are some of my absolute favorites… and yes… this was TRYING to not post too many! LOL!

This phone belonged to one of my grandfathers…. and this photo is from my other set of grandparents wedding…

as you can see this shoot was dear to my heart for so many reasons.

The cameras on the left were passed down to me from my great grandmother and my grandmother who is also the gorgeous woman in the frame on the right.

Seriously… can you guys be any more stunning!?! This was my favorite image that we took from inside the cockpit of the Spruce Goose.

This is the Spruce Goose in it’s entirety taken from outside after dusk. You can barely make out the planes that we were shooting under the wing on the left.

It gives a little persecutive as to the massive size of the Spruce Goose. I feel so blessed to have gotten to work with such incredible pieces of history. What an amazing day. Thanks for stopping by.
